Courtado ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Courtado website and mobile app, which help players find courts, sessions, and people to play tennis with in New York City. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
When you create an account and use Courtado, we collect:
- Account information: your email address and password (stored securely and never in plain text).
- Profile information: name, username, profile photo, borough, skill level, and any optional details you add (age/birthday, college, profession, Instagram handle, interests).
- Location: with your permission, your device's precise location, used to show nearby courts and sessions on the map. You can decline this and still use most of the app.
- Content you create: sessions you host or join, direct messages, session group chats, follows, reports, and blocks.
- Photos: if you choose to upload a profile photo, we access your camera or photo library only for that purpose.
- Device push token: if you enable notifications, a token used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Usage data: basic analytics about how you use the app (pages visited, features used) so we can improve it.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Operate core features: showing courts and sessions near you, connecting you with other players, and enabling messaging.
- Send transactional emails and push notifications (new followers, session activity, messages) — you can control push notifications in your device settings.
- Maintain safety and trust, including reviewing reports and enforcing blocks between users.
- Understand usage patterns and improve the app over time.
We do not sell your personal information.
Sharing With Service Providers
We use a small number of trusted third parties to run Courtado, each only with the access they need to do their job:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider.
- Resend — sends transactional emails on our behalf (e.g. waitlist, follow, and message notifications).
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers push notifications to iOS devices.
- Mapbox — powers the interactive court map.
- PostHog and Vercel Analytics — provide aggregate usage analytics.
Other users of Courtado can see information you make public on your profile (name, username, photo, stats) and content you post (sessions, messages you send to them). We never share your email or precise location with other users.
Your Choices and Rights
- You can edit or remove most profile information at any time from your profile settings.
- You can block or report other users directly from their profile.
- You can disable location access or push notifications at any time in your device settings.
- You can permanently delete your account from your profile settings — this removes your profile, sessions, messages, and other associated data.
Data Retention & Security
We retain your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the app's features. If you delete your account, we remove your associated data except where we're required to retain limited records (for example, to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes). We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted connections and access-controlled databases, to protect your information.
Children's Privacy
Courtado is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
